While you sleep under general anesthesia, Dr. Johnson or Dr. Wimalawansa will make a horizontal incision between your pubic hairline and your navel. The exact shape and length of the incision will depend on how much skin you have to lose, but the doctor's goal will be to keep the incision hidden when you wear a bikini.
Once the incision is made, the doctor will lift the skin away and then repair and restore the strength of your abdominal muscles. He will then pull what remains of your skin down over your newly strengthened abs, trim the excess skin away, and suture the skin together.
In some cases, excess skin in the upper abdominal region will require a second incision at the navel. In any case, the doctor will create a new opening for your navel, pop the belly button through, and also suture that into position.
